At Halstead Community Primary School, we want every child to know that they belong.

Our school motto, “Everybody different, everybody equal,” is more than a phrase – it is at the heart of our school community. We celebrate the fact that every child is unique, with their own strengths, interests, experiences and needs. We want all our children to feel happy, safe and valued, and to know that they are an important part of school life.

For us, inclusion means looking at the whole child. We work closely with children, families and professionals to understand individual needs and to put the right support in place. Whether a child needs additional help with their learning, communication, emotional wellbeing, physical needs or another aspect of school life, our aim is always the same: to help them participate, develop confidence and achieve their potential alongside their peers.

We are particularly proud that this sense of belonging has been recognised by Ofsted over many years. Inspectors referred to Halstead’s “inclusive values” in 2016, and our most recent inspection in March 2025 reflected what we hope every child experiences when they walk through our doors:

“At this school everyone is made to feel welcome.”

Ofsted also recognised that pupils “work and play alongside one another positively, regardless of differences or needs” and that pupils with SEND “are included in all aspects of the school.”

We know that choosing a school – particularly when your child has additional needs – can bring lots of questions. At Halstead, we value open and honest relationships with families. We listen, we work together and we continually reflect on how we can remove barriers so that every child has the opportunity to thrive.
