At Halstead Community Primary School, we believe that every child deserves the opportunity to feel happy, successful and fully part of our school community. Our motto, “Everybody different, everybody equal,” reflects our commitment to recognising each child as an individual and ensuring that differences are understood, respected and celebrated.

We recognise that some children with Special Educational Needs and/or Disabilities (SEND) may need additional or different support to help them access learning, develop independence and achieve their potential. Our staff work carefully to identify individual needs and barriers to learning as early as possible and to provide appropriate, high-quality support.

Our approach begins with high-quality teaching in the classroom, alongside carefully planned adaptations and additional support where needed. We work closely with children, parents and carers, our SENDCo and external professionals to build a clear understanding of each child's strengths and needs and to review the support they receive.

Halstead also has a specialist SEND provision for children with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD). Our specialist staff work closely with colleagues across the wider school so that children can access appropriate specialist provision while being part of the wider Halstead school community.

This was recognised by Ofsted in March 2025, when inspectors found:

“At this school everyone is made to feel welcome.”

Inspectors also noted that pupils “work and play alongside one another positively, regardless of differences or needs” and that pupils with SEND “are included in all aspects of the school.”

We know how important a positive partnership between home and school is, particularly when a child has additional needs. We encourage parents and carers to speak to us about any concerns they may have and work together to identify appropriate next steps. Above all, we maintain high expectations for children with SEND and want every child to develop confidence, independence, positive relationships and a love of learning.
